About the Speaker:

Ramin Asgary, M.D., MPH, FASTMH, professor of Global Health, Medicine, and International Affairs and director of the Master in Public Health in Humanitarian Health at George Washington University, is a health services researcher and healthcare educator and practitioner. Primarily trained as an internal medicine physician with a specialization in preventive medicine and implementation research, he has complementary training in public health, community medicine, clinical and translational research, and comparative effectiveness research. 

After three decades in the field of healthcare, Dr. Asgary has gained substantial experience and expertise in research, education, program development and implementation, and academic leadership, nationally and internationally. He started working in humanitarian settings with multiple humanitarian agencies and Doctors Without Borders-MSF in the 1990s as a field physician, medical coordinator, director, and senior health and research advisor in more than two dozen projects in regions including Eurasia/Former Soviet States, Sub-Saharan/East/South Africa, and Central America.

Dr. Asgary’s research focuses on some distinct but overarching areas of global public health, preventive medicine, healthcare education, and community service with an underlying theme of health disparities solutions, nationally and internationally. His current research

projects include large-scale cohorts in cervical and breast cancer control strategies using smartphone-based strategies and telehealth in under-resourced settings, randomized clinical trials assessing the impact of mobile health strategies and SMS texting in improving

diabetes and hypertension control and cancer care among homeless persons, and ethics and accountability in humanitarian settings.
