About AUA

The American University of Armenia (AUA) is a U.S.-accredited institution of higher learning affiliated with the University of California.

Founded in 1991, AUA fosters scholarship in a setting that values and develops academic excellence, free inquiry, integrity, scholarship, leadership, and service to society. The University provides high-quality, graduate and undergraduate education that encourages civic engagement and promotes democratic values, preparing students and enabling faculty and researchers to address the needs of Armenia and the surrounding region.

As a truly global institution, AUA offers its instructional programs in English, making its programs accessible to qualified individuals from both Armenia and other countries in the region and around the world.

AUA’s graduate and undergraduate level programs aim to prepare not only well grounded specialists but also well-rounded individuals who are able to think critically and creatively. AUA students learn on their own to understand different kinds of thinking, to work in teams, and to deal with people from different cultures and disciplines.

The University’s graduate program offers Master’s degree in eight fields of study: Business Administration, Industrial Engineering and Systems Management, Computer and Information Science, Political Science and International Affairs, Economics, Public Health, Law, and Teaching English as a Foreign Language. These Master’s level programs are intended to develop critical analysis and depth of knowledge through advanced coursework, independent study, and research.

AUA’s undergraduate program, meanwhile, offers Bachelors degrees in English and Communications, Computational Sciences, as well as Business. Through its undergraduate courses, the University offers students both breadth and a foundation of general knowledge, perspectives and skills for life, and an appreciation of the Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences and Quantitative Sciences. Each of the program’s three majors, meanwhile, offers depth, specialization and career preparation.

At AUA, we believe the exchange between faculty members, students and the community at large is based on intellectual openness. Students are encouraged to formulate, critically and creatively, their individual paths of understanding and to pursue diversity in knowledge.

AUA faculty work to promote learning and knowledge by teaching and conducting research at the University’s six centers of research: the Center for Business Research and Development, the Engineering Research Center, the Center for Policy Analysis, the Center for Environmental Management and Research, the Center for Health Services Research, and the Legal Resource Center.

As a public service to the community, AUA also provides courses through its Extension Program. At AUA Extension we plan, design, develop and deliver comprehensive English language training, a multitude of computer literacy and information technology training and a number of leadership, business management and entrepreneurship courses. With its state of the art infrastructure, AUA Extension helps fulfill professional and/or career goals through flexible and innovative training programs, workshops and seminars to meet the changing needs of those seeking the best in continuing education, adult training and lifelong learning. AUA Extension holds a unique position in Armenia and the region with its state of the art infrastructure, unparalleled building and classroom facilities, all aspects of technology from internet and Wi-Fi to videoconferencing and the most competent instructor/trainer base.

By providing teaching, research and public service, AUA seeks to serve Armenia and the region and to provide a positive model in the transition to a market economy and democratic style of government.
