AUA’s Independent Student Newspaper, The Bridge, Launches With Great Fanfare

< 1 min read

YEREVAN, Armenia – On April 15, 2015, the American University of Armenia (AUA) held an all-day celebration to launch the first online publication of The Bridge, AUA’s new independent student newspaper. Throughout the day, laptops were set up in Agbabian Hall for students, faculty, and staff to browse through the website and become familiar with its content. A more formal reception was also held in which The Bridge members introduced themselves, told the story of the newspaper’s creation, and presented their first issue.

The Bridge consists of 16 undergraduate AUA students whose aim it is to bring news to the AUA community. The online publication is a platform for students to raise awareness about issues and events that concern and impact the university, as well as the broader community.

Editor-in-Chief Hovsep Markarian explained, “The name ‘The Bridge’ was inspired by the actual bridge that connects AUA’s two buildings – the Main Building and the Paramaz Avedisian Building. We thought this newspaper could be the bridge that connects the AUA community together, and then connects our community with other communities in Armenia and even abroad.”

Sections of The Bridge include News, Opinion, Arts & Culture, Sports, Lifestyle, and Student Blog. The Student Blog also includes a section based on the popular ‘Humans of New York’ website, with pictures and quotes from AUA students.
