3 min read

YEREVAN, Armenia — On May 24, the American University of Armenia (AUA) Career Services hosted around 50 companies during its annual Career Fair, offering over 200 jobs and 100 internships. As part of the Fair, AUA students and alumni had the chance to attend five different workshops on resume writing, understanding artificial intelligence (AI) in recruitment, LinkedIn page optimization, and essential soft skills for successful job interviews and starting a new job. At the end of the event, AUA students and alumni were given the opportunity to participate in mock interviews to practice their interview skills with human resource specialists and recruiters in order to gain confidence and increase their potential of landing the right job.

Over the years, AUA Career Services has welcomed hundreds of Armenian and international companies that have career opportunities available to AUA students and alumni. As usual, the event was organized at the end of May, prior to graduation, to encourage University students to start focusing on their career options early.

This year, over 250 students and alumni participated in the Career Fair. In order to enhance the scope of opportunities for as many people as possible, AUA Career Services contacted various industries, including consulting, auditing, insurance, banking, telecommunications, hospitality services, educational and training centers, manufacturing, trade, and IT, among others. As always, the AUA Human Resources Office also took part in the Fair, with the University’s long-standing status as one of the major employers for AUA students and alumni.

According to the evaluation survey, most of the participants find the event highly effective, both from the job-searching perspective and the training angle (job market, workshops, mock interviews). These address the core mission of the annual Career Fair. The same sentiment was also shared by employers, who were satisfied with the overall event and their interactions. The event was mutually beneficial for them and for the AUA students and alumni.

In addition to offering employment opportunities, the Fair also served as an ideal venue for students to explore the job market, connect with employers, and create a network of contacts for future career development. AUA students and alumni took active part in the interactive games and quizzes organized by the attending companies and won various prizes.

Following the Fair, five workshops were conducted by professionals from different companies. The workshops covered a diversity of topics, such as attractive resume writing, the importance of AI in making resumes stand out, tips for preparing for interviews, and other job-hunting tools. The classrooms were full of participants. The sessions were interactive, featuring up-to-date and highly useful materials.

With the help of ten partner companies’ HR specialists and recruiters, our students were able to participate in mock interviews, as well as initial tests and screening for certain positions, at the end of the event. The students who took part in the interviews stated that this training not only helped them gain an overall understanding of the interview process, but also provided them valuable feedback from the interviewers regarding their soft skills.

The 2024 AUA Career Fair served as a great platform to bring together job seekers and employers and develop their networks for the future.
