Annual DigiCode Contest Held at AUA
The many years’ contribution by the Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE) and member companies have lived up to expectations. On May 30, the most anticipated annual DigiCode youth programming contest has been held at the American University of Armenia (AUA). Schoolchildren from almost all regions of the Republic of Armenia reflecting the community development and potential of information technologies have participated in the contest.
The Ucom company, constantly supporting innovative educational programs, has become the general sponsor of the DigiCode Contest. Hayk Yesayan, the Executive director of Ucom, noted: “We have taken the sponsorship role of DigiCode Contest without hesitation as it aims at encouraging and developing schoolchildren’s algorithmic thinking, turning them from game consumers to game makers. Let’s hope that these talented young people who are active shapers of tomorrow will develop their creative abilities and become the most important and highly demanded professionals in the ICT sector of Armenia”.
World Vision Armenia highly stresses the importance of the work of engineering laboratories in Armenian communities. Liana Sargsyan, the director of the youth programs of the organization, mentions: “World Vision’s goal is to support schoolchildren to acquire a demanding profession and such tournaments make the sector very interesting, especially among children and young people who do not attend such clubs.”
Karen Vardanyan, the UITE Executive Director notes: “DigiCode is a good opportunity to discover creative talents as well as provide schoolchildren with competitive conditions.” Vardanyan, addressing schoolchildren, also has said that they would compete in the international market in the future, but in this case it would be organized among teams and enterprises, thus he has advised the youth to work frequently with their friends, get experience and create projects.
Schoolchildren worked with the Kria (K-Turtle) and Scratch (Aghves) programming languages, the latter had been developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). They have presented their games to the members of the professional jury.
Arman Atoyan (X-Tech), Vahe Torozyan (Mindup Games), Narek Tutkhalyan (World Vision Armenia), Vardan Mamikonyan (Ucom), Aram Keryan (AUA), Satenik Mnatsakanyan (Leviathan), Narek Aghekyan (Noor Games) and Arman Poghosyan (Instigate) have been involved among the members of the jury.
