2 min readYEREVAN, Armenia – On June 6, 2014, the American University of Armenia (AUA)’s Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) program and the Center for Research in Applied Linguistics (CRAL) held the Third Student Research Conference for graduate and undergraduate students in linguistics and applied linguistics, with over 60 participants in attendance.
As is the tradition of the annual Student Research Conference, it was planned and organized by a team of MA TEFL students. The coordinators of this year’s conference were Mariam Davtyan and Ninel Gasparyan, both graduating MA TEFL students. A team of six recent alumni from AUA’s MA TEFL program and Certificate in Translation program served on the blind peer-review committee, which selected submitted proposals for the conference. The keynote speech, “Reflective Practice and Research in the 21st Century,” was given by Dr. Raichle Farrelly, assistant professor in the MA TEFL program.
In addition to 21 conference talks and poster presentations from four local universities (AUA, the Armenian State Pedagogical University after Abovyan, the Russian-Armenian University, Yerevan State University), this year AUA was delighted to welcome a student from Ankara University in Turkey, who presented a project called “Culture and Idioms in Turkish Child Language,” co-conducted with his student colleague from the Gazi University in Turkey.
