AUA Students Receive Awards in IT from PM Pashinyan

YEREVAN, Armenia – On November 4, 2019, three students from the American University of Armenia (AUA) Akian College of Science and Engineering (CSE) received State Educational Awards in the field of information technology (IT) for their outstanding academic performance. Maro Grigoryan (BS CS ‘20), Arman Simonyan (BS CS ‘20), and Arman Zakaryan (MS CIS ‘20) were among the 47 winners who received their awards from the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan. This year’s awards ceremony coincided with Synopsys Armenia’s 15th anniversary celebration. 

“As students, we put a lot of effort in our education and awards like this are a testament that our hard work is being noticed and rewarded appropriately. It’s flattering and motivating at the same time. This award speaks volumes about the quality of education that is set here at AUA, which allows its students to represent the University at its finest,” proudly remarked Zakaryan.

For Grigoryan, this is already the second State Educational Award in the field of IT. Four years ago she won the award for “Best High School Student.” Inspired by her success and higher achievement, she noted: “The amount of effort put in the process determines the result, and the award is the measurement of the hard work that was necessary to succeed.”

The State Educational Awards in the field of IT were established through a presidential decree in June 2005. Synopsys Armenia has teamed with Hayastan All-Armenian Fund to support and encourage young engineers in Armenia. The awards are given annually to the best students from each eligible university and high school. A trophy, a corresponding certificate, and a monetary prize are granted in the following nominations: Grand Prix, Best PhD Student, Best Master’s Student, Best Bachelor Student, Best Diaspora Student, Best Female Student, and Best High School Student.

“For me this recognition is but a reminder that I am on the right path. I think it’s great that students in IT are encouraged for their achievements, but the endeavors of youth in fundamental science should be given at least equal recognition as well. I also think that the real value is not the award itself but the warmth and appreciation of friends, family and the people around,” Simonyan commented upon receiving the award.
