Adjunct Lecturer Armine Abrahamyan Receives Seven Film Awards

YEREVAN, Armenia — The American University of Armenia (AUA) proudly announces that Adjunct Lecturer Armine Abrahamyan has recently been bestowed seven awards for her films. Abrahamyan teaches Acting Techniques and Creative Productions at AUA. Under the artistic name Armine Anda, director, writer, actress, and producer, she was recognized for her outstanding work in filmmaking.

One of her recent creations, a short animation titled The Song of Flying Leaves (2023), was awarded by Golden Apricot in the Apricot Stone Best Short Film category at the Golden Apricot International Film Festival. After premiering in Amsterdam at the Kaboom Animation Festival in late March 2023, the film was selected for participation in 38 festivals spanning various continents. Notably, The Song of Flying Leaves is competing in such academy award-qualifying festivals as the Animest International Animation Film Festival (Romania), In the Palace International Short-Film Festival (Bulgaria), Bolton Film Festival (UK), and the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival (U.S.), one of the largest academy-qualifying children’s film festivals in the world to take place in November 2023.

In the recent two months, The Song of Flying Leaves (2023) received several awards, including the Golden Flame Animation and Producers awards in Lantern and Light International Children’s Film Festival (Australia), along with Special Mentions in Shorts Mexico (Mexico), Corto Lovere (Italy), International Animation Festival Ajayu (Peru). 

The Song of Flying Leaves is co-written, directed, and produced, with voice acting by Abrahamyan. The score belongs to Miqayel Voskanyan, Anna Hakopian is the artistic director, and the cast also includes Gagik Ghazareh. The film is co-written by renowned Ukrainian film director Roman Balayan. Reflecting on her work, Armine Abrahamyan posits, “I don’t believe in truth without imagination.”

Additionally, on September 22, Abrahamyan received the Best Actress award at the Malta Short Film Festival for a short fiction, Crossing the Blue, by Victoria Aleksanyan, which she co-wrote and produced, also acting in a lead role. Most recently, the film received the Germogli di Cinema (future cinema) award in Italy’s Visioni Corte International Short Film Festival. Crossing the Blue was officially selected to participate in academy-qualifying festivals such as Tampere (Finland), Go-Short (Netherlands), In The Palace (Bulgaria), and Bolton (UK). The cast includes Armen Mikayelyan and famous Austrian actor Alexander Strobele. 

Both films, The Song of Flying Leaves and Crossing the Blue, are produced by Hoshkee Film, a production company established by Abrahamyan.
