Joint Commemoration of the Holocaust and Genocide

This year the commemoration days for the Jewish Holocaust and Armenian Genocide fall on the same day, April 24. To mark this occasion, AUA has organized a joint commemoration program on Wednesday, April 12. The program will include presentations by AUA Visiting Prof. Yair Auron and AUA Lecturer Suren Manukyan, and moderated by visiting journalist-in-residence Thomas Gorguissian. The program includes musical tributes performed by AUA lecturer in music, pianist and composer Artur Avanesov and will feature works by Yerevan-based composed William Weiner, Komitas and others. The program will bring together Armenian and Jewish perspectives on these human catastrophes from the 20th century, which remind us of the urgency of genocide prevention. It is especially appropriate for peoples who have suffered such crimes to remember with each other. When we remember together, we affirm our common humanity and commitment to a better world.
