Developing a 3D Khachkar Virtual Museum

About the Event:

The aim of this talk is to present the current status of an ongoing research project about a virtual museum of Khachkars. In this museum visitors can construct their own Khachkar exposition choosing stones from a more than 50 different models which have been digitized. It is expected that users learn about Khachkars by constructing the exposition which may include stones which in the real world may be located far from each other. Attendees will have the possibility to test the software and give feedback about how to improve it.

About the Speaker:

Nelson Baloian has an undergraduate degree in Computer Sciences from the Universidad de Chile, Chile in 1988 and PhD from the University of Duisburg, Germany in 1997. Since then, he has been researching in the areas of Computer Supported Collaborative Learning/Work, Distributed Systems; Mobile Computing for Learning Support (m-learning) and Geo-collaborative systems. Currently, he is faculty member of the Department of Computer Sciences at the Universidad de Chile. He is also Associate Visiting Professor from the Waseda University, Japan and a regular Guest Professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany. Dr. Baloian is author of about 100 peer-reviewed conference articles and 30 journal articles.
