AUA's Direction Forward & Up

About the Event:

The American University of Armenia (AUA) Office of Development invites you to a special event featuring Dr. Sharistan Melkonian, Ed.D., who will discuss the University’s direction forward and the specific ways it has positioned itself on a path to growth. 

As the dean of General Education and the accreditation liaison officer at AUA, Dr. Melkonian will share insights on:

  • The development of new undergraduate degree and minor programs at AUA
  • Encouragement and support of faculty development in project-based and experiential teaching
  • Accreditation with WSCUC
  • Graduate employment rate and the pursuit of further education

Wine and appetizers will be served, and a Q&A session will follow. 

This event is open to the public at limited capacity. There is no admission fee, but registration is required by April 21

About the Speaker:

Sharistan Melkonian, Ed.D., is the dean of General Education and the accreditation liaison officer at the American University of Armenia (AUA), where she has worked since 2011 when she joined the University as part of the development team for AUA’s undergraduate program.  Melkonian has presented at several international conferences in the United States, Europe and Armenia on teaching, learning and assessment.  She served on the inaugural Accreditation Committee of the National Center for Professional Education Quality Assurance Foundation, Armenia’s national accreditation agency.  Prior to joining AUA, she led the Armenian Volunteer Corps. Prior to moving to Armenia, Melkonian spent eight years as legislative director for YouthBuild USA, a national non-profit organization providing education, counseling, and job training to unemployed youth. A Massachusetts native, Melkonian has lived in Los Angeles, New York, and Boston where she was actively involved with a number of organizations. She has served on the Steering Committee for the Youth Policy Action Center (Washington, D.C.) and the Campaign for Youth (Washington, D.C.), the Board of Directors and the Education Council of the St. Stephen’s Elementary School (Watertown, MA), and as a board member of the Armenian National Committee of America. She has a B.A. in communications from Worcester State University, an M.A. in comparative and international education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and an Ed.D. in higher education management from the University of Pennsylvania.
