Construction of Gender & “New Woman” in Early Soviet Armenia
February 23, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm +04
About the Event:
The talk will examine the process of gender construction in the early Soviet Union by focusing on the women’s magazine Hayastani Askhatavoruhi (Female Worker of Armenia) during the first five years of its publication (1924-1929). Supported by archival research, it illustrates how the Soviets envisioned and constructed the New Soviet (Armenian) woman in line with socialist values and lifestyles.
