Prospective Career Opportunities for Engineering and Computer Science Students

YEREVAN, Armenia – On December 10, the College of Science & Engineering organized a session to explore career opportunities for engineering and computer science students. A number of professionals talked about their career paths and together with AUA students explored opportunities that lie ahead.

The speakers included Rouben Meschian, former member of the Advanced Technologies team at IBM. Meschian is a founding software engineer at Cambridge Semantics where he is the lead developer of Anzo on the Web, a fully customizable web application that allows end users to create dashboards to view and edit linked data.

Vaagn Toukharian, who is the principal engineer at Qualys’s Web Application Scanner, also spoke at the event. Toukharian has also been involved with the security industry since 1999 and his experience includes work on certification authority systems, encryption devices, large CAD systems, and Web scanners. Currently, Toukharian is the Armenian chapter leader at Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP).

Artashes Vardanyan, director of Microsoft Innovation Center, was another speaker at the event.He comes from the dynamic startup world where Vardanyan brought fresh thinking and hands-on experience in transforming innovative ideas into products. As Startup Acceleration Manager, his aim is to connect startups with mentors and investors and share his experience with others.

Vahagn Poghosyan shared his experience at the talk. Poghosyan started his career in high-tech in 1999 at the Silicon Valley-based EDA startup. In 2003, he received his PhD degree in the field of applied mathematics. Since 2007, Vahagn co-founded multiple initiatives targeting improvement of education, with primary focus on IT and Robotics. Vahagn is the co-founder and chief technology officer at Instigate Design CJSC since 2005.
