YEREVAN, Armenia On September 19, 2023, participants from 25 countries, including the American University of Armenia (AUA), gathered in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium for an exciting educational experience. This Consultants Training: Measuring Impact with, for, and by Youth Organizations” was organized by the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), in collaboration with the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and Maynooth University.

The five-day intensive training program connected 28 participants from diverse backgrounds to engage in educational and skills development activities aimed at improving youth development programs.

Among the diverse group of participants in the training was Kristina Azizyan (LL.M. ’24), a second-year student in the AUA Master of Laws program and recipient of the YMCA Scholarship. Also attending this event was Marina Babayan, AUA alumna and communications specialist in the U.S. Office of Development of the University who works closely with the YMCA scholarship awardees at AUA.

A recipient of the YMCA Generation Next Scholarship for two consecutive years, Azizyan has a deep understanding of the YMCA culture. She has also acquired invaluable skills working as a volunteer in RootsMade, Yerevan. The consultancy training in Belgium has equipped her with a new set of skills and was a good opportunity for building meaningful connections and new experiences.

“The training provided an incredibly rich and comprehensive learning experience that extends beyond the knowledge and insight we gained from the program curriculum,” remarks Azizyan. “We created meaningful connections with participants and coaches, which truly reinforced the beauty of humanity and unity around a shared purpose. I am beyond grateful to YMCA for this opportunity.”

Similarly, Babayan expressed her gratitude for having taken part in the training: “The intensive courses provided valuable knowledge and opportunities to practice problem-solving and develop soft skills, which are necessary in any sphere. It was a pleasure to meet and interact with so many participants from all over the world. I believe that sharing knowledge and perspectives is important for personal and professional growth.”

Receiving the YMCA scholarship has been an enriching experience for Azizyan that spans beyond financial assistance. Between her studies at AUA and volunteering for YMCA, she asserts to have gained profound knowledge in charity work and grew the ability to contribute to similar causes.

YMCA Training SessionThe past two years have changed me significantly. I learned to be more empathetic and aptly use the skills I gained at AUA to make small contributions in practical ways. I take pride in being a YMCA scholarship recipient. No other scholarship would have resonated with me so deeply. YMCA is a great community that acknowledges every contribution and fosters a deeper engagement and concern for humanitarian causes,” notes Azizyan.
