2 min read

YEREVAN, Armenia — The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation in Armenia and the American University of Armenia (AUA) Master of Laws (LL.M.) program are pleased to invite applications for participation in the 2023 Regional Summer School on International Humanitarian Law (IHL).

This long-established joint program provides a unique opportunity for participants from the region to enhance their knowledge of IHL while expanding their professional networks. The upcoming summer school will delve into the vital role of IHL in addressing the multitude of challenges arising from armed conflicts worldwide. Participants will gain insight into IHL within the context of present-day global interests. The course aims to introduce the participants to the fundamental tenets of international humanitarian law, including its nature and function, as well as its sources and general principles.

The 2023 Regional Summer School will observe ICRC’s 160 years of worldwide humanitarian action. This year’s program aims to develop a deep understanding of the humanitarian consequences resulting from armed conflicts and the pivotal role ICRC and IHL play in such situations. The topics will cover a wide range of humanitarian outreach actions, from assistance to crisis-affected people to protection of cultural property and the rights of missing persons and support for their families. Thus, the summer school will inform participants about the tools and mechanisms available to ICRC under the law and the scope of its on-the-ground work addressing the consequences of armed conflict.

The summer school invites applications from advanced students and young professionals from governmental and non-governmental organizations who encounter tasks and challenges within the realm of international humanitarian law and its relevant applications.

Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their applications by Monday, July 17, 2023 (23:59 GMT). All eligible applicants will be notified of their acceptance by August 1, 2022.
