YEREVAN, Armenia – The American University of Armenia (AUA) is pleased to announce that it has been selected to house the American Research Institute of the South Caucasus (ARISC)’s first office in Yerevan. ARISC and AUA will cooperate on different activities. ARISC aims to add its endeavors to AUA’s rich academic environment.

AUA President Dr. Bruce M. Boghosian shares, “AUA is delighted to be entering into this collaborative agreement with ARISC, whereby we will co-organize academic conferences and jointly apply for research grants. Working together with our colleagues in ARISC, we will be looking for opportunities to support and enhance the ongoing high-caliber scholarship in the region. It is our belief that this and similar partnerships serve AUA’s educational and research mission well.”

ARISC’s mission is to promote and encourage American research in the region and to foster intellectual inquiry across boundaries within the South Caucasus as well as between the South Caucasus and its neighbors. The exchange of scholars and scholarly information is encouraged through support of conferences, fellowship opportunities, publications, teaching resources and other forms of cooperation for use both in the United States and in the host countries.

Led by a growing consortium of U.S. academic institutions and individual scholars interested in the region, ARISC continues to welcome the participation of new institutions and individuals who are interested in becoming members. AUA is ARISC’s first Overseas Institutional Member. Dr. Adam T. Smith, head of the ARISC Armenian Steering Committee notes, “ARISC’s collaboration with AUA will provide wonderful new opportunities for scholars committed to the study of Armenia and the South Caucasus to connect with one another to form meaningful partnerships.  We hope that our new relationship is the beginning of an important new era of cooperative research and international understanding.”
