The results of “I am The Media” student competition were summed up at the Media Initiatives Center on July 10. Personal stories how media has helped or vice versa, mislead students and how they would like to see the media: these were the issues raised by students in their works. From among 14 applications submitted, the jury of journalists and lecturers recognized Yerevan State University’s journalism faculty student Syune Sevada’s work as the best. Her work was about the young journalist’s searches. Another YSU student, Azatuhi Khachatryan took the second place: she told about a person’s daily life and about transformations of customs. The third place was shared by two students. Lilit Hovhannisyan, a student of the American University of Armenia, was the only one to present a video, by which she attempted to show how interpretation and music can influence the message of a material. Amalya Khachatryan, a student of the Yerevan State University of Language and Social Sciences covered the issues of stereotypes about reporters in the society. The organizers of “I am The Media” student competition highlight the participation of not only journalism faculty students. That’s why the jury awarded YSU physics faculty student Rubina Davtyan with an encouragement award. In her work Rubina Davtyan covered science journalism issues. Lusine Grigoryan, the coordinator of media literacy programs, noted that this is not the only way by which they communicate with students: they regularly organize meetings, training courses in different universities. All the winning works will be published on media.am. They were also awarded valuable gifts. The competition was organized within the project “The Media for the Participation of Informed Citizens”. It is jointly implemented by the Center for Media Initiatives, Eurasia Partnership Foundation and Internews, with funding from the US Agency for International Development. The competition was also financed by Orange-Armenia and Ucom Armenia. The initiative was also supported by BarCamp Yerevan.
