Translating Bram Stoker’s Under The Sunset

About the Event:

A reading from and discussion of the Armenian translation of Bram Stoker’s collection of stories “Under the Sunset,” a project that was initiated in the CTr Practicum in Translation course.

About the Speaker:

Heghine Aleksanyan graduated from Yerevan State University in 2017 with a BA in Public Administration. She studied at Masaryk University in the Czech Republic for a semester in 2016 and received a Certificate in Translation from the American University of Armenia (AUA) in 2021. She has served as the editor-in-chief of the translators’ department at the Enlight Public Research Center from 2020-21, where she also coordinated and moderated translational internships and projects, notably the “Թ.ինքնեկ” translational podcast series. Heghine has published numerous articles, including “Propaganda as a ‘language’ of communication” and “The Role and Status of the Translator: Friedrich Schleiermacher’s Formula” (Utblick Magazine). She is the editor of the Eastern Armenian version of Armenian Wonderwomen by Gayane Aghabalyan and Elmira Ayvazyan. She is currently a communication specialist at Ayb Educational Foundation, where she contributes to ambitious educational projects in Armenia.

Shushan Avagyan, Ph.D., is an associate professor and coordinator of the AUA Graduate Certificate in Translation Program and director of AUA Press.
