About the Event:

The Armenia-US Collaboration to Address Chronic Disease via Education in Social Determinants Science (ACCESS) Project is offering a series of health seminars devoted to the importance of social determinants influencing non-communicable diseases. This talk will provide an overview of the evolving tobacco market globally, as the range of alternative tobacco products, including e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products, has diversified. It will examine key socio-structural determinants of tobacco use and control, particularly concerning policy/regulations and industry influences.

About the Speaker:

Dr. Carla J. Berg is a professor and associate chair for research in the Department of Prevention and Community Health at George Washington (GW) University’s Milken Institute School of Public Health and associate center director for Population Sciences and Policy at the GW Cancer Center. Her research focuses on multilevel determinants of health behavior, including tobacco and cannabis use in the context of related policies and marketing influences; policy adoption, implementation, and evaluation; and developing and testing scalable behavioral interventions to reduce chronic disease risk and burden.
