Research Design: from Project Proposals to Publishing

About the Event:

We are extremely delighted to share that during this seminar, Dr. Armen Kherlopian will take you through key topic areas around conducting scientific research. From initial ideation and proposal development to best practices around experimental design and all the way through publishing findings, you will be immersed in the scientific method in a pragmatic way.

This will be a great chance to learn the importance of questions in scientific discourse as well as how to structure a research program to increase the chances for discovery to occur.

Science commercialization and startup case studies will also be reviewed, with highlights spanning Robotics to areas in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.

About the Speaker:

Dr. Armen Kherlopian is a world-renowned Data Scientist and Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the American University of Armenia, where he focuses on fostering research to support a science-based economy. His current research interests include Machine Perception and the impact of AI in Society. Dr. Kherlopian also has tremendous industry experience that includes Global Fortune 100 Companies, startups, and government organizations. He is a Founding Partner of the BAJ Accelerator hosted at the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute and Scientific Advisory Board Member of NASA-backed TRISH.

Previously, as Chief Science Officer at Genpact (NYSE: G, 100,000+ Staff), his contributions included deriving data-driven insights in Formula E racing to improve driver performance and safety, which led to champion standing across three continents including the Paris, Santiago, and New York ePrixs and was featured in the MIT Technology Review. At Booz Allen Hamilton (NYSE: BAH, 25,000+ Staff), he was key in developing the advanced analytics book of business and co-authored the seminal Field Guide to Data Science.

Dr. Kherlopian is an awardee of the U.S. National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, U.S. Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship, is a Coca-Cola Scholar and a U.S. Delegate to the Lindau Nobel Laureates Meetings. He holds a BS and MS in Biomedical Engineering with a focus on Algorithms from Columbia University, a PhD in Biophysics with a focus on Machine Learning from Cornell University, and completed a fellowship in High Performance Computing and Artificial Intelligence at Princeton University.
