Persecution: A Crime Against Humanity AUA MA Human Rights and Social Justice

About the Event:

AUA Human Rights and Social Justice program will be hosting Dr. Rosa Ana Alija Fernández for a talk titled “Persecution: A Crime Against Humanity.”

About the Speaker:

Dr. Rosa Ana Alija Fernández is an associate professor of public international law at the Department of Criminal Law and Criminal Sciences and Public International Law and International Relations of the University of Barcelona, where she coordinates the master’s degree in Advanced Legal Studies and the Legal clinic on the fight against impunity within the programme Dret al Dret (“Right to Right”). She has a master’s degree in International Studies (University Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona) and a Ph.D. in Public International Law (University of Barcelona). Her main research areas are the international protection of human rights, international criminal law, and transitional justice.
 
She has been a visiting professor at several Latin-American universities and visiting researcher at the University of Uppsala, the Research Centre in Latin-American Criminal and Procedural Law (Forschungsstelle für lateinamerikanisches Straf- und Strafprozessrecht) of the University of Göttingen, and the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights. Dr. Fernández has also collaborated with the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda in training Rwandan lawyers on universal jurisdiction and with international research teams and networks in the field of transitional justice.
