About the Event:
The American University of Armenia (AUA) Office of Development invites you to a fireside chat featuring Alen Amirkhanian, director of the AUA Acopian Center for the Environment, in a moderated discussion with AUA Interim President and Co-Founder Dr. Armen Der Kiureghian regarding the University’s critical role in addressing environmental issues in Armenia and beyond.
Wine and appetizers will be served, and a Q&A session will follow.
This event is open to the public at limited capacity. There is no admission fee, but registration is required.

About the Speakers:
Alen Amirkhanian is the director of the AUA Acopian Center for the Environment, a position he has held since 2013. In 2014, he established the AUA Center for Responsible Mining, for which he acts as interim director. He also teaches graduate and undergraduate environmental courses at the University. Prior to coming to AUA, he was senior vice president of research at Michael Porter’s Initiative for a Competitive Inner City. He has consulted the World Bank, UNDP, and Brookings Institute on energy efficiency as well as economic and urban-growth issues. His current academic interests include urban environmental sustainability, “greening” the built environment, and circular economy, especially as it relates to “greening” cities. Alen holds a master’s degree in city planning (1997) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Department of Urban Studies and Planning.
