YEREVAN, Armenia – On December 4, the American University of Armenia (AUA) and the National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia (NUACA) signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding in the spheres of education and scientific research.

AUA President Armen Der Kiureghian noted that the agreement with NUACA is close to his heart as he, himself, is a civil engineer. He looked forward to the two institutions broadening their ties and level of collaboration within the framework of the new memorandum.

“We are very glad to sign this agreement for collaboration with NUACA. Although we do not offer degrees in architecture or construction engineering, there are many ways that we can collaborate to benefit the students and faculty at both institutions. As a civil engineer myself, I am personally very happy that this agreement has been signed. I am prepared to do all I can to help advance the programs in my field of expertise at NUAC,” Der Kiureghian said.

Talks between the two universities had been on-going before the agreement was signed, which can now serve as a launch pad for closer collaboration, possibly including joint conferences, seminars, research using innovative technologies, and the development of new curricula and courses, including advanced English courses for NUACA lecturers, students, and administrative personnel.

Founded in 1991, the American University of Armenia (AUA) is a private, independent university located in Yerevan, Armenia and affiliated with the University of California. AUA provides a global education in Armenia and the region, offering high-quality, graduate and undergraduate studies, encouraging civic engagement, and promoting public service and democratic values.
