2 min read

NOYEMBERYAN, Armenia — The American University of Armenia (AUA) proudly announces two health initiatives supported by the Entrepreneurs in Health (EIH) program of the AUA Turpanjian College of Health Sciences (CHS).

Dr. Guram Aghababyan, a dentist and maxillofacial surgeon, and Dr. Manush Gishyan, a cardiologist, are health entrepreneurs from Noyemberyan. This town is located near Armenia’s northeast border, 187 km. from Yerevan, with a population of about 5,300 residents. Both Drs. Aghababyan and Gishyan completed the mandatory educational component of the EIH program. They developed the business and quality assurance plans for their respective clinics and received the approval of the EIH Executive Committee following their presentation. As a result, they qualified for financial assistance to procure planned equipment and secured the program’s support for their continuous professional development.

Dr. Gishyan had previously run a private cardiology clinic and was able to expand her practice with EIH assistance, while Dr. Aghababyan received support for launching his new dental clinic. The clinic officially opened on July 31, 2023, at an inaugural event that gathered community leaders, colleagues from regional health facilities, relatives, friends, and EIH program representatives.

The EIH program will continue to support Drs. Gishyan and Aghababyan offering professional development assistance, mentorship by medical experts from the diaspora, and consultations in healthcare quality, preventive dentistry, operational and financial management, and other relevant fields.

The Entrepreneurs in Health (EIH) program is funded by the Turpanjian Family Educational Foundation. Its aim is to improve access to quality health services in rural communities of Armenia, Artsakh, and Javakhk through the introduction of advanced technologies and innovative approaches to support healthcare professionals in developing private health practices.

The AUA Turpanjian College of Health Sciences works actively to improve population health and health services in Armenia and the region through interdisciplinary education and development of health professionals to be leaders in public health, nursing, health services research and evaluation, and health care delivery and management.
