Building HVAC Design and Economic Analysis: A Viewpoint from the United States

< 1 min read

YEREVAN, Armenia – American University of Armenia (AUA) College of Science and Engineering organized a seminar on October 29, 2015, led by US-based mechanical engineer, Stanley Boghosian. Boghosian presented the approach of his work group in performing economic assessments of retrofit strategies for existing buildings. He discussed various ways of evaluating energy and economic performance and described some of the equipment and designs that his group has used in designing low energy and zero energy building projects. A Q&A session followed the presentation.

Boghosian, who has a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of California at Berkeley, presented the economic and performance analysis of energy equipment (residential furnaces, air handlers), buildings, and HVAC systems. His most recent position as a design engineer for HVAC systems in large buildings presented him with the opportunity to study the economic means of retrofitting existing buildings in order to achieve zero energy performance.

Founded in 1991, the American University of Armenia (AUA) is a private, independent university located in Yerevan, Armenia and affiliated with the University of California. AUA provides a global education in Armenia and the region, offering high-quality, graduate and undergraduate studies, encouraging civic engagement, and promoting public service and democratic values.
