New Haven, Connecticut – AUA President Armen Der Kiureghian visited Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) in New Haven, Connecticut, on October 7, 2015. The visit followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in August, which aims to foster collaboration and exchanges among the faculties and students of the two universities.

Meetings were held with President Mary Papazian and select faculty and academic administrators of SCUC. Areas of common interest were identified, including programs in public health, nursing, media studies, education, and computer science. Possibilities for reciprocal visits were discussed and counterpart AUA faculties were identified. “There are many activities that SCSU and AUA can engage in with mutual benefit to both universities,” President Der Kiureghian said.

During a tour of the campus, President Der Kiureghian visited the student union, the new science building, as well as an exhibition of rare photographs collected by Professor Armen T. Marsoobian, showing Armenian communities in Turkey during late 19th and early 20th centuries.

President Der Kiureghian expressed his appreciation about the visit by saying, “This was a very informative visit and I hope that it will produce positive results in the near future. I am grateful for the warm hospitality of President Papazian and her faculty and staff.”

Founded in 1991, the American University of Armenia (AUA) is a private, independent university located in Yerevan, Armenia and affiliated with the University of California.
