PARIS, France – As a partner in the three-year TEMPUS project “Promoting Quality and Recognition of Transnational Higher Education in Armenia and Georgia” (TNE_QA), representatives of the American University of Armenia (AUA) participated in a two-day workshop on quality assurance in transnational education hosted by the International Institute for Educational Planning in Paris, France, from September 21-22, 2015.

Catherine Buon, Associate Dean for General Education, Anna Karapetyan, Assessment and Compliance Coordinator, and Sharistan Melkonian, Director of Accreditation, participated in the workshop which focused on developing a policy framework of quality assurance for transnational higher education in Armenia and Georgia.

Participants from 18 partner institutions and agencies worked to develop a set of thresholds corresponding to indicators of quality assurance which had been developed in an earlier workshop held in Batumi in June.

Quality assurance agencies from both Armenia and Georgia also introduced their respective national accreditation criteria and standards as well as procedures developed under the project to effectively manage quality assurance of transnational education.  Both agencies integrated criteria and indicators derived from UNESCO/OECD guidelines.

The Paris workshop will be followed by the adoption of policies and procedures and subsequently preparation for pilot review of partner institutions.

Transnational education is growing internationally as well as in both Armenia and Georgia with an increase in branch campuses, joint/dual degrees, inter-governmental institutions, and franchise higher education institutions.
