YEREVAN, Armenia – On April 20, 2015, the American University of Armenia (AUA) College of Science and Engineering (CSE), in partnership with the New Technology Education Fund and Technology Science and Dynamics, held a conference entitled, “Young People Against Genocide.” The event was part of AUA’s 1915 Centennial Series.

The conference featured opening speeches by CSE Dean Aram Hajian, CEO and President of Technology and Science Dynamics Dr. Vahan Chakarian, RA Deputy Minister of Economy Emil Tarasyan, and representatives from the RA Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Diaspora.

Dr. Chakarian’s speech discussed the United Nations General Assembly’s 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide and the fact that not much has changed since then; new killings and mass tragedies are still occurring on a daily basis throughout the world.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Armen Harutyunyan also spoke, emphasizing the need to achieve justice together and to join in a united fight against atrocities and killings of human fates. He stated that power and courage are in the hands of today’s youth, and that they are capable of making big changes when it comes to punishment for and recognition of genocides.

The “Young People Against Genocide” project aims to unite young people from all parts of the world to speak up against genocides that happened and/or are happening in the world now. The main aim of the project is to uncover the topic of genocides in general and to send out a call for the world to choose life over death. The official project slogan is appropriately marked, “Yes to Life.”

On March 10th, the official Facebook page of the project was launched, and features photos of several ads shot during the project.
