Dana-WalrathYEREVAN, Armenia – On April 16, 2015, the American University of Armenia (AUA) hosted writer, poet, artist, and Fulbright Scholar Dana Walrath for a presentation of her latest book, Like Water on Stone. The event was part of the 1915 Centennial Series at AUA.

Like Water on Stone is an intense survival story of three siblings caught up in the horrific events of the Armenian Genocide of 1915. “Narratives of genocide often evoke feelings of shame and hatred. All Armenians share this legacy, and if we are to find our place in today’s world, we have to understand our relationship to such terrible stories,” she said.

Dana Walrath, a second generation Armenian, is committed to the movement for reconciliation between Turkey and Armenia. She believes an honest reckoning of history, apology, and forgiveness is essential for healing and will help bring about peace in the future.

Dana holds a Ph.D. from the Department of Anthropology of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. She is a member of the American Anthropological Association, American Association of Physical Anthropologists, Society for Medical Anthropology, American Association of University Women, and Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. She speaks French, Spanish, Armenian, Turkish, and Colloquial Arabic. She lives in Vermont.

Founded in 1991, the American University of Armenia (AUA) is a private, independent university located in Yerevan, Armenia and affiliated with the University of California.
