Armenians in Iran Past and Present: Schools and the Community

Prof. Mkrtich Toomanian will deliver a seminar on Armenian schools and communities in Iran.

Dr. Toomanian is a mathematician, member of National Academy of Sciences of Armenia and the Academy of Sciences of Iran for the past 25 years, serving as the Head of the Mathematics section. He has 38 years of teaching experience at the University of Tabriz. Furthermore, Dr. Toomanian served 20 years as a member and 8 years as the President at the Association of Mathematicians of Iran.
He is an active member of the Armenian community and church in Iran, serving 20 years (10 years as the President) for the Board of Trustees of the Schools of Tabriz and 12 years as the President of the Assembly of Atropatene Armenian Diocese.

He was born in New Julfa (Jugha), Esfahan in 1943, where he attended the community Armenian School, after which he continued his education at the Universities of Tehran and Tabriz earning the BS and MS degrees, and received his PhD in Differential Geometry from the University of Southampton, England.
