We hear the tales of survival and the hardships that the Armenian Genocide survivors had to endure\, the struggles they had to encounter. Yet why is it that we never question what became of their lives? Not in the sense of establishing a new life but reflecting on how much the massacres influenced them on a traumatic scale that ultimately affected their behavior moving forward. Storytelling is a powerful tool. I wanted to use my illustrations to bring the oral story to life. I wanted the viewer to connect to my great grandfather\, Hagop Barish\, on a deeper level as the events of the Genocide and the life he went on to live are better depicted through visual imagery. Hence\, the concept of creating a graphic novel. \nIn(Sight) House Talks is part of a larger ongoing initiative\, Oral History Matters\, that is meant to make oral history more visible as a research methodology. The series is an extension of the collectively curated exhibition by a team of recent AUA graduates in August 2023\, showcasing their research creation projects and capstones. How can oral history open up space for forms of knowledge that have been denied and silenced by dominant and oppressive research practices? How can we build deep connections with our research participants? What insights do we gain from them about our research process and ourselves as researchers? How do we voice silences? These are some of the questions the speakers will explore. \nAbout the Speaker: \nVana Anbarson (BAEC ’23) graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and communications from AUA. Her research interests focus on the life stories of individuals whose importance extends beyond their troubled past. She incorporates the method of oral history and visual imagery\, such as digital illustrations\, to depict her research projects. Anbarson is one of the founding members of Oral History Matters\, and she is currently working to produce videos for EmaHay\, an Armenian community in the UAE. \nLanguage: English URL:https://newsroom.aua.am/event/insight-house-talks-hagop-barish-genocide-survivors-life-story/ LOCATION:AGBU Papazian Library\, Main Building CATEGORIES:Events Calendar,Humanities & Social Sciences ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://newsroom.aua.am/files/2024/03/Vana-Poster-front.jpg ORGANIZER;CN="English & Communications Program":MAILTO:info@aua.am END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
