As was the case with so many events worldwide\, the global pandemic required postponement of  the conference for over two years. This year\, for the first time ever\, the Armenian Genealogy Conference will be hosting its annual assembly in Armenia. The Conference is cosponsored by the Hamazkayin Cultural Association and the American University of Armenia (AUA) during the weekend of September 23 to 25. \nBuilding on the foundation set by previous conferences\, the program will consist of sessions devoted to the genealogy of Armenians from different regions. The resources available to Armenians tend to be very geographic specific and thus\, experts are generally regionally focused. The sessions will be informative as well as pragmatic\, providing practical tools for all genealogists regardless of their level of experience.  The working languages of the Conference will be Armenian\, English\, and Russian. Simultaneous interpretation will be available. \nRegistration for the 5th Armenian Genealogy Conference is open and available to the public at the following link. \nLanguage: Armenian\, English\, and Russian with simultaneous interpretation URL:https://newsroom.aua.am/event/5th-armenian-genealogy-conference/ LOCATION:Manoogian Hall\, 40 Marshal Baghramyan Ave\, Yerevan CATEGORIES:Events Calendar,General Education,Humanities & Social Sciences ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://newsroom.aua.am/files/2022/06/Armenian_Genealogy_Landing_Page_NR-1-1.jpg ORGANIZER;CN="American University of Armenia":MAILTO:info@aua.am END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=Asia/Yerevan:20220929T140000 DTEND;TZID=Asia/Yerevan:20220929T150000 DTSTAMP:20240328T134955 CREATED:20220915T132709Z LAST-MODIFIED:20220926T121653Z UID:49711-1664460000-1664463600@newsroom.aua.am SUMMARY:Adult Learning Principles DESCRIPTION:About the Event: \nJoin an interactive presentation covering aspects of Adult Learning Principles and how understanding these can help you better understand your students\, yielding an enhanced teaching and learning experience. \nAbout the Speaker: \nDr. Hagop Yacoubian\, Dean and Associate Professor\, College of Humanities & Social Sciences. DESCRIPTION:About the Event: \nIn(Sight) House Talks is part of a larger ongoing initiative\, Oral History Matters\, which is meant to increase the visibility of oral history as a research methodology. The series is an extension of an August 2023 exhibition collectively curated by a team of recently graduated AUA students showcasing their research projects and capstones. How can oral history open up space for forms of knowledge that have been denied and silenced by dominant and oppressive research practices? How can we build deep connections with our research participants? What insights do we gain from the latter about our research process and ourselves as researchers? How do we voice silences? These are some of the questions the speakers will explore. \nAbout the Speaker: \nArpine Ghambaryan (BAEC ‘23) completed her BA in English and Communications with a minor in gender studies at the American University of Armenia. Her research interests include the personal narratives of marginalized communities through the method of oral history and visual modes of study such as photography and filmmaking. Currently\, Arpine is a teaching associate for the Research Projects in Gender Studies course at AUA and is working on a few research projects in Armenia. \nDoes it feel like home? \nThis project explores the relationship between place and memory\, time and relations\, human connections and personal stories by weaving intergenerational narratives of my mother\, my grandmother’s friend Shogik\, and my own. I created a film that allows each one of us to plant the seeds of our memories and give life to them as long as we have the privilege of carrying them with us. The project is also a conversation with myself and the world in an artistic way. The text and the film work together to produce a multi-layered narrative of my research\, shedding light on the importance of personal stories for the production of knowledge. This project is how I deal with grief. I grieve my grandparents’ passing as I grieve about disconnecting from Jungliner\, a neighborhood in Vanadzor that created a significant part of my childhood memories. I explore the ways in which these memories were constructed over time and became imprinted in my mind\, forever reminding me of the power of that place. \nLanguage: English URL:https://newsroom.aua.am/event/oral-history-matters-insight-house-talks-does-it-feel-like-home/ LOCATION:Akian Art Gallery\, 434W\, PAB CATEGORIES:Events Calendar,Humanities & Social Sciences ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://newsroom.aua.am/files/2023/11/Poster-front_page-0001-1-1.jpg ORGANIZER;CN="English & Communications Program":MAILTO:info@aua.am END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=Asia/Yerevan:20231120T163000 DTEND;TZID=Asia/Yerevan:20231120T180000 DTSTAMP:20240328T134955 CREATED:20231023T130544Z LAST-MODIFIED:20231026T104939Z UID:58657-1700497800-1700503200@newsroom.aua.am SUMMARY:20-րդ Դարի Հայ Հասարակական-Քաղաքական Միտքը Քննական Լույսի Ներքո․ Ստալինյան ճամբարներ. How can we build deep connections with our research participants? What insights do we gain from them about our research process and ourselves as researchers? How do we voice silences? It is a collaboration between my grandmother and myself that started in my childhood and took form later during my undergraduate studies. We used mapping to understand what life in my grandmother’s village was like and the gender dynamics that were embedded in that place. The maps became the axis and anchor of the project\, as they turned into reference points through which the rest of the stories took shape. As my grandmother’s voice guides the film\, the project defies the patriarchal norms that she describes\, for the voice that was once silent is now the one that gets to narrate. \nAbout the Speaker: \nAnna Andreasyan (BAEC ’23) holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and communications with a minor in gender studies from the American University of Armenia (AUA). She has used oral history as a research method in several projects for her classes at AUA. Her research interests focus on the relationship between gender\, space\, voice\, and visibility\, as well as their manifestations in public and private spaces. Andreasyan is a founding member of the Oral History Matters initiative. Currently\, she is a teaching associate for the Gender and Social Change course at AUA. \nLanguage: English URL:https://newsroom.aua.am/event/insight-house-talks-in-our-mountains/ LOCATION:Akian Art Gallery\, 434W\, PAB CATEGORIES:Events Calendar,Humanities & Social Sciences ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://newsroom.aua.am/files/2024/02/Anna-poster-front-1.jpg ORGANIZER;CN="English & Communications Program":MAILTO:info@aua.am END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=Asia/Yerevan:20240223T183000 DTEND;TZID=Asia/Yerevan:20240223T203000 DTSTAMP:20240328T134956 CREATED:20240219T061623Z LAST-MODIFIED:20240226T062907Z UID:61241-1708713000-1708720200@newsroom.aua.am SUMMARY:Practical Workshop Series on Emerging Technologies and Digital Law DESCRIPTION:About the Event: \nThe American University of Armenia (AUA) Master of Laws (LL.M.) program is pleased to announce a series of workshops covering the fundamentals of intellectual property (IP) theory; the core components of contract drafting; legal management within the prism of inter-jurisdictional case administration\, analysis\, and case study; as well as practical exercises on negotiating and auditing legal risks.
