World No Tobacco Day: “Harms to the Environment”

About the Event:
On May 31, on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day 2022 (WNTD), the Open Center for Transformative Health Solutions and Turpanjian College of Health Sciences are gathering the AUA community to raise awareness of WNTD 2022’s theme “Tobacco: Threat to our environment”. The event will feature a presentation on the environmental threats of tobacco as well as Armenia’s progress, successes, and challenges in tobacco control. The event will adjourn with a discussion of future steps needed to support national tobacco control efforts.
About the Speaker:
Zaruhi Grigoryan is a research associate at the Turpanjian College of Health Sciences. Her primary background is in pharmaceutical chemistry. She earned her MPH degree in 2015. Throughout the past several years, Grigoryan has been engaged in tobacco control and research projects focusing on the integration of tobacco dependence treatment in standard tuberculosis (TB) care, the establishment of smoke-free environments in TB facilities, testing the effectiveness of local coalitions towards establishing smoke-free communities, and adapting European tobacco dependence treatment guideline for Armenian healthcare providers.
She has authored and co-authored peer-reviewed papers and abstracts. She has also attended numerous international public health and tobacco prevention and control conferences to present her research findings. This year, Grigoryan earned the Global Tobacco Control certification from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health’s Institute for Global Tobacco Control.
