UN and AU Peacekeeper Sexual Abuse and Exploitation: Regulation and Accountability

October 29 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

About the Event:

Currently, there are numerous difficulties with the legal frameworks, policies and systems that deal with sexual offences by peacekeepers in many contexts. Particular focus to date has been placed on the United Nations. Less considered are the parallel regulatory frameworks operative in the context of peacekeeping done by regional organisations beyond the United Nations. This seminar will trace some of the recent developments within the UN system in response to sexual abuse and exploitation by UN peacekeepers. The speaker will also speak about some aspects of the developing framework that govern African Union peacekeeping personnel.
