About the Event:
On April 28, 12:00 p.m., the AUA Manoogian Simone College of Business and Economics, in collaboration with the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics (SITE), invites you to attend the upcoming research seminar on “Women’s Agency: What Works, and How Gender Norms Matter” led by Dr. Eleonora Guarnieri from the University of Bristol.
The seminar will review evidence on efforts that enhance women’s agency, defined as the ability to set goals, act upon them, make meaningful decisions, and participate fully in economic and everyday life.
Drawing on a large body of experimental and quasi-experimental research across low and middle-income countries, the presentation adopts a cross-cutting perspective across multiple domains of agency and examines the mechanisms underlying intervention effectiveness. The central focus of the talk is the role of gender norms in shaping policy outcomes.
The presentation will also discuss recent research, demonstrating how restrictive gender norms can limit policy effectiveness and influence individual and household outcomes, as well as broader societal patterns of violence.
This event is part of the Research Seminar and Policy Brief Series on “Closing Gender Gaps Through Economics Research.” More information about the program is available on the project website.
