PSIA Symposium: Armenia on the Silk Road: Its History, Present and Future

April 9 @ 3:30 pm - 5:20 pm

About the Event:

The symposium focuses on the role of Armenia on the trade road, known as the Silk Road, then and now. In the course of its long history, Armenia has been occupied by various empires, kingdoms and has experienced other occupations and annexations. Its strategic place in its commercial and cultural development became a hotspot of many wars and battles.

In this symposium we are trying to understand, given current geopolitical complexity, how the Republic of Armenia, with diminished hard power, navigates trade and development at the regional level, and uses its diasporic soft power at the global level.

Presentations:

History of Armenia on Silk Road – Yige Mao, Basilio Monteiro
How does Armenia negotiate trade and development with Iran – David Bierwirth
How does Armenia negotiate trade and development with China – Yao Li, Fengying Zhan
How does Armenia negotiate trade and development with Russia – Natalie Affenita
The soft power of Armenian Diaspora – Gohar Aznauryan
