PSIA Seminar: Far from the Fatherland in the Fatherland

September 2, 2019 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm +04

About the Event:

This seminar will discuss the fates of Armenian soldiers in the Russian Tsarist Army in WWI, who had fallen into Austro-Hungarian captivity. Documents have been found in the archives of the Viennese anthropologist R. Pöch who had investigated about 7000 “Russian POWs”, among them 200 Armenians. J. Dum-Tragut has investigated the fates of these Armenian POWs based on Pöch’s documentation, combined it with archival material from Austria, Armenia and Russia and the narratives of the descendants and families of the POWs, that she searched in several villages in Armenia. The whole history and fates of Armenian soldiers in WWI will be uncovered by three Austrian scholars.
