SUMMARY:Mentoring-Developing a Transformational Relationship for the Mentor and Mentee
DESCRIPTION:About the Event: \nDuring the event\, a discussion will take place exploring the elements of mentoring that can turn it from a transactional experience to a transformational one. The participants will get acquainted with research-based best practices in mentoring as well as hear anecdotes from Dr. Frick’s experience that illustrate ways to connect with mentees and facilitate the personal development and growth of both the mentor and mentee. \nAbout the Speaker: \nKevin Frick is a health economist and professor at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School with joint appointments in the Department of Ophthalmology and the Bloomberg School of Public Health’s Departments of Health Policy and Management and International Health. He is core faculty for the Hopkins Business of Health Initiative and the Center for Health Services and Outcomes Research. He has taught courses on microeconomics and health economics\, cost-effectiveness\, health care finance\, and frameworks for analyzing health care markets. His research has focused on the cost and cost-effectiveness of treatments and interventions to improve health\, largely optometry and ophthalmology topics and nurse-led interventions. He has served on an Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research study section and the National Institute for Nursing Research Advisory Council. He served as the Vice Dean for Education at the Carey Business School helping the school achieve initial AACSB accreditation\, develop online educational offerings\, redevelop its full-time MBA program\, and develop a range of experiential learning opportunities. Recently\, he completed service on the Academy Health Paradigm Project steering council\, and he helped plan and implement a health economics and outcomes research conference for the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and moderated a fireside chat on mental health in the workplace. His post-vice dean plans include resuming research on the cost-effectiveness of eye care\, adding a course on business leadership and human values to his teaching repertoire\, participating in research on the economics of bereavement policy\, and continuing to practice and conduct research on mentoring. \nLanguage: English \nPrior registration is required.
