Leadership and Innovation in Today’s Complex and Fragile World

About the Event:
AUA 2019 Distinguished Alumnus, Dr. David Akopyan will share his 26-year experience with the UN, reflecting on his complex assignments, tests for resilience, and system thinking, leadership and innovation. His experience displayed that trivial ways did not work, and it was a constant struggle to break the pattern, find new narrative, and look for non-conventional solutions. Further, he will talk about leadership under crisis and about innovation and adaptive management — how experience elsewhere seen as a wisdom, did not offer solutions in a new context; how crises can accelerate the change, and how disruptive development moves system to a higher-level of organization.

About the Speaker:
Dr. David Akopyan, AUA 2019 Distinguished Alumnus, dual career — PhD in physics — studied complex systems, after graduating AUA’s Master of Business Administration program and for 26 years ahead has worked with the UN in 15 countries — the last ten years being in service in Afghanistan, Somalia, and Syria. He held leadership position as programme director, country director, and resident representative with UNDP for a number of years.
