International Training Program in Raptor Conservation Hawk Mountain Sanctuary’s Acopian Center for Conservation Learning

About the Event:
During the informational session the alumni of the program will present the training program, share their experience in Raptor Conservation at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary and tips for applying for the program.
Program Dates:
– August 5 – December 5 of each year
– March 5 – July 5 of each year
Application Deadline:
6 months before the start of each training
The AUA Acopian Center for the Environment will be making recommendations for candidates to participate in the International Training Program at the Acopian Center for Conservation Learning in the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in Kempton, Pennsylvania.
Through the International Training Program, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary’s Acopian Center for Conservation Learning offers hands-on learning and field experiences to individuals committed to a career in natural-resource conservation with a focus on raptors.
Trainees:
• Live on-site for 4 months
• Learn basic techniques in conservation science and education
• Experience monitoring and conservation education in a wildlife sanctuary
• Learn how to work with volunteers, visitors and school groups
• Learn how to apply for grants and fund their own research projects
• Work on both an independent and a group project
• Practice nature interpretation at the Sanctuary
• Practice the latest methods in migration monitoring techniques
• Exposure to satellite telemetry, banding, and GIS mapping
• Develop multicultural awareness and international partnerships
Hawk Mountain trains up to 14 exceptional individuals per year. Trainees are selected through a highly competitive process.
The program COVERS COSTS OF TRAVEL, ACCOMMODATIONS, AND MEALS.
Interested candidates from Armenia and Georgia are asked to send their names and candidature to the AUA Acopian Center for the Environment for pre-selection.
Candidates must have knowledge of the English language and a high likelihood of continuing a career in natural resource conservation.
