Inaugural Conference: Jean Monnet Chair of European Studies

The conference intends to mark the nomination of the Jean Monnet Chair of European Studies at the American University of Armenia.

The event will feature special remarks from the ambassadors of the United Kingdom, Italy, and France, as well as high-ranking diplomats from the German Embassy, and the Delegation of the European Union to Armenia.

The Chair will work to raise awareness in Armenia about the European Union through teaching, research and the organization of different initiatives, such as conferences, guest lectures, and Model EU program.

The conference will underscore the increasing role played by the EU member-states and the EU in Armenia since the 1990s in terms of development aid, economic assistance and political engagement. The event will also highlight the importance of teaching and research in EU Studies as a novel and multi-disciplinary field, as well as analyze the EU’s policy towards the South Caucasus through academic lenses.
