SUMMARY:Global History Today: From Premodern to Modern History
DESCRIPTION:About the Event: \nWe invite young researchers from the South Caucasus — master’s students\, Ph.D.s and early postdocs — to join a masterclass with Professor Sebastian Conrad and Professor Thomas Ertl to discuss the most recent scholarship in the field of global history.  \nHow can we apply insights from the larger field of global history to concrete projects at the master’s and Ph.D. levels? And how do we connect histories of the South Caucasus and Armenia with debates on globalization\, interconnection\, and postcoloniality? \nTo participate in this class\, please send a short motivation letter of approximately 400 words to info@mws-georgia.org until 10 April\, 2026. Please detail your background and current field of study and what you would like to present or discuss during the workshop. This could be your own thesis or research and how it connects to global history\, or a more general question that you have in relation to global history. What do you already know? And what do you hope to learn at the workshop? \nThe workshop will be held at AUA and will be accompanied by public lectures by  Professors Conrad and Ertl. \nThis workshop is part of the Global History Series of the Max Weber Office\, Tbilisi\, hosted in cooperation with the AUA Turpanjian Institute of Social Sciences. It builds on previous classes held in Yerevan and Tbilisi. \nFor more information\, please visit here. \n  \nAbout the Speakers: \nDr. Thomas Ertl is a professor of the history of the high and late Middle Ages at the Freie Universität Berlin. He is a leading scholar in the global turn of medieval studies\, focusing on the social and economic interconnectedness of the pre-modern world. \nDr. Sebastian Conrad is a prominent historian holding the Chair of Modern History at the Freie Universität Berlin. He is widely considered one of the leading figures in the field of global history\, known for systematizing its methodology and expanding its scope to include intellectual and social dimensions.
