Digital You: The Virtual Future of Medicine
September 17 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm +04
About the Event:
We are delighted to announce that the American University of Armenia (AUA) Office of the President and the AUA Zaven P. & Sonia Akian College of Science and Engineering will be hosting a lecture on “Digital You: The Virtual Future of Medicine” featuring an esteemed guest, Dr. Peter Coveney, author of the book “Virtual You: How Building Your Digital Twin Will Revolutionize Medicine and Change Your Life.”
The concept of virtual humans is compelling, offering an in-silico environment known as a digital twin, where personalized medicine can be implemented, incorporating individual features from personal genomes to the anatomy of connected organ systems and beyond into human populations and clinical trials. These virtual humans will aid in medical and clinical treatment decisions, reduce the need for animal testing, and serve as personal avatars, guiding us in making informed healthcare and lifestyle choices.
Building virtual humans presents a multiscale challenge, requiring the integration of data and models across various levels, from molecular and subcellular scales to cells, tissues, and organs, and beyond addressing population health to epidemiological issues.
During the talk, Dr. Coveney will:
- discover recent breakthroughs in high-performance computing,
- make a comparison with other digital twin projects underway today,
- and highlight several biomedical issues being addressed based on various components of the future virtual human.
Mark your calendars to join the lecture on September 17, at 7:00pm, in room 414W, PAB, AUA.
