Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and Public Health

About the Event:

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the simulation of the human intelligence process by computers. It is described as the use of techniques that enable computers to mimic human behavior. Advances in AI impact medicine and public health. The presentation will describe ten main applications of AI in medicine, focusing on its impact on drug development. Those applications include the identification/validation of drug targets, design of new drugs and repurposing of existing ones, predicting pharmacological properties, 3D characteristics, and drug–target association to improve and fasten the R&D efficiency. AI techniques have been shown to play an important role in pre-market drug safety by predicting toxicity risks. The presentation will describe the main players and tools in the field, collaborations with Pharma and Biotech, and new regulatory frameworks to promote the use of AI algorithms while controlling the risk of false positives.

Prior registration is required through this link.

About the Speaker:

Dr. Ada Azaryan is a Physician and Research Scientist with successful scientific and clinical research experience. She is an alumna of the Yerevan State Medical University (Internal Medicine Physician). She holds a Ph.D. in molecular biology (Institute of Molecular Biology, Moscow, USSR) and a Dr. Sci. degree in biochemistry (Institute of Biochemistry, Yerevan). As a research scientist, Dr. Azaryan has a record of established experience in the field of neurochemistry of opioid peptides and receptors and studied psychostimulant tolerance and dependence mechanisms (NICHD, NIH; USUHS). Since 2000, she worked as a research physician in the preclinical and clinical development of new drugs and biologics in the global pharmaceutical industry, including Celgene USA and Genmab USA. Dr. Azaryan is a clinical trialist with many years of Drug Safety and Pharmacovigilance experience in a management role. Her portfolio includes early and late phase development investigational products in many therapeutic areas, including oncology and immunology. Dr. Azaryan worked extensively with investigational products to treat B-cell hematologic malignancies (myelomas, lymphomas) and in post-marketing studies of proprietary oncology products. She served as Safety Lead Physician in the successful submission/approval and marketing of Pomalyst (pomalidomide) for relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma and Otezla (apremilast) for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis in USA and EU.
