3 min read

YEREVAN, Armenia — The American University of Armenia (AUA) Open Education is pleased to announce the launch of the second IELTS testing location in Armenia. According to the partnership agreement signed on June 1, 2021 between AUA and British Council Armenia, the new Independent Test Centre (ITC) will operate at the University.

The new IELTS ITC will provide test takers with more options for planning their test, offering a choice of location, as well as more availability of dates that work best for them. Through this partnership, IELTS tests will also become available in some provinces of Armenia, making it easier for test takers to register and take their tests outside of Yerevan. Now Gyumri and Vanadzor residents will be able to take the IELTS test in their hometowns.

“This is a great opportunity not only for prospective AUA students and students, in general, who can take IELTS Academic for their entrance exam attesting to their language proficiency but also for the Armenian community, as IELTS General will now be available to the public at AUA in Yerevan and in the regions,” notes Anna Maghakyan, senior program coordinator at AUA Open Education.

Prospective AUA students and the general public can take both the IELTS Academic and IELTS General tests at AUA. To help test-takers prepare for the test, AUA Open Education offers exam preparation courses

At the IELTS ITC of AUA, test takers will take the Listening, Reading, and Writing modules on the computer, while the Speaking test will be administered via a video call with a certified IELTS Examiner, enabling a real-time two-way interaction. Taking IELTS on the computer avails test takers their scores faster, typically available between two to five calendar days after completing all modules of the test.

“IELTS recognition in Armenia is growing, resulting in an increasing number of people wanting to take the test. The partnership with the American University of Armenia will provide the opportunity to meet this growing demand and extend the test delivery to the regions for the convenience of our test takers. The American University of Armenia is an institution of high standards, and I am confident that cooperation of our two institutions will help us better serve our customers in Armenia,” stated Arevik Saribekyan, country director at British Council Armenia.

Founded in 1991, the American University of Armenia (AUA) is a private, independent university located in Yerevan, Armenia, affiliated with the University of California, and accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission in the United States. AUA provides local and international students with Western-style education through top-quality undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs, promotes research and innovation, encourages civic engagement and community service, and fosters democratic values.
