SPITAK, Armenia — On August 22, a new neurology and rehabilitation medicine clinic founded by Dr. Anahit Voskanyan officially opened in the Spitak community of Lori Province. The opening ceremony brought together community residents, healthcare professionals working in the community, healthcare entrepreneurs, friends and family, as well as representatives of the American University of Armenia’s Entrepreneurs in Health (EIH) Program.

Dr. Voskanyan has nearly 13 years of clinical experience in neurology and rehabilitation medicine, along with postgraduate training abroad. Ultimately, she decided to establish her own medical center in her hometown of Spitak, driven by a clear goal of making quality specialized neurological and rehabilitation services more accessible to residents of Spitak and neighboring communities. The clinic will enable patients to receive the care they need closer to home, without having to travel to Yerevan or other major cities.

As part of the process of establishing the clinic, Dr. Voskanyan participated in the EIH program, completing its educational components focused on healthcare entrepreneurship and quality management in healthcare. Through the program, she developed her business idea implementation plan, which was subsequently approved by the EIH Program Executive Board.

Dr. Voskanyan established the medical center using her own resources. As a beneficiary of the EIH Program, she is eligible to benefit from the program’s additional support components.

The aim of EIH is to improve access to quality health services in rural communities of Armenia through the introduction of advanced technologies and innovative approaches supporting healthcare professionals to develop private health practices.

The AUA Gerald and Patricia Turpanjian College of Health Sciences works actively to improve population health and health services in Armenia and the region through interdisciplinary education and development of health professionals to be leaders in public health, nursing, health services research and evaluation, and health care delivery and management.
