YEREVAN, Armenia — The American University of Armenia (AUA) is pleased to welcome Dr. Sameh Hosny as an assistant professor in the Zaven P. and Sonia Akian College of Science and Engineering (ACSE).
Dr. Hosny earned his M.S. in mathematics and Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from The Ohio State University and brings more than 20 years of experience in academia and industrial research and development. His research includes embedded systems, embedded artificial Intelligence, FPGA-based computing, hardware–software co-design, wireless communications, and machine learning, with an emphasis on intelligent edge computing and resource-constrained embedded platforms.
For Dr. Hosny, joining AUA means being part of a student-centered learning environment and an innovative academic community, and his goals involve equipping students with practical skills.
“I aim to empower AUA students through project-based, outcome-aligned (ABET) engineering coursework that equips them with real-world skills in embedded architectures, hardware-software co-design, and smart edge devices,” he remarked. He also seeks to involve students directly in research projects, preparing them for higher education and leadership roles in the industry.
He connects his research with his teaching through hands-on project design, real-world case studies, and student research integration. “My philosophy is student-centered, project-based, and outcome-oriented. Rather than relying solely on passive lectures, I emphasize interactive problem-solving, hands-on hardware/software labs, and continuous constructive feedback,” he noted.
Prior to joining AUA, Dr. Hosny taught at various institutions in the United States and Egypt, allowing him to teach diverse student populations across different environments. “I recognize that students enter with varying mathematical and hardware backgrounds; hence, I break complex topics into progressive, structured milestones,” he said.
Early in his career, he faced a challenge of bridging the gap between high-level mathematical formulations and their physical implementation on hardware platforms. Now he implements that experience into his teaching and helping students. “I now use this exact experience to teach my students how to systematically troubleshoot and bridge theoretical models with real-world engineering constraints,” he highlighted.
Dr. Hosny is committed to advancing AUA’s engineering program and contributing to the technological sphere. “I am fully dedicated to enhancing AUA’s engineering curriculum, supporting institutional accreditation standards, and fostering academic-industry partnerships that benefit both our students and Armenia’s broader technology landscape.”
