YEREVAN, Armenia — On July 29, the American University of Armenia (AUA) Extension in Vanadzor organized an English Contest between two student groups enrolled in General English levels 1 and 2. Fifteen students aged 11–15 participated in the competition, demonstrating the knowledge they had gained in their courses.
The contest consisted of four parts, structured as follows: (1) testing vocabulary acquired during the course; (2) checking grammar essential at that level, such as present simple verbs, prepositions of time, countable and uncountable nouns, and articles; (3) grounding listening skills in understanding key words and sentences; and (4) speaking structured around real-life scenarios, such as ordering food at a restaurant and shopping.
Students were actively engaged in various platforms of team-based activities that advanced their communication skills and team collaboration. The contest created a motivating and enjoyable environment where students demonstrated their English skills, built more confidence, and planned for their continuing progress.
AUA Extension is the non-degree educational program of the American University of Armenia (AUA), with programs especially geared to meeting the educational needs of individuals from diverse backgrounds and occupations, as well as governments and corporate organizations. Extension courses are intended to expand participants’ knowledge for personal growth and professional development to best suit individual goals and career choices. Thus, Extension helps students reach their highest potential, whether for admission to AUA or for expanding knowledge and skills to become more competitive in the labor market. Additionally, AUA Extension provides testing services on behalf of various standardized tests for college admission and exams for international professional certification.
