BERLIN, Germany — On July 4, as part of the American University of Armenia’s (AUA) 35th anniversary celebration, alumni from across Germany gathered in Berlin for another memorable event of the AUA Alumni Global Gatherings initiative. Hosted at the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia (RA) in Berlin, the reunion brought together graduates from different generations and academic programs for meaningful conversations, new connections, and renewed ties to their alma mater.

The Berlin reunion follows successful alumni gatherings in Prague, Paris, and Los Angeles, reflecting the continued growth of AUA’s international alumni community and the University’s commitment to strengthening connections among its graduates around the world. The event was made possible through the generous support of the Embassy of the RA in Berlin and the dedication of AUA alumna Maria Yeritsyan (BAEC ’22), who contributed through her efforts and dedication to help organize the gathering.

The afternoon opened with a beautiful cultural performance by violinist Nora Shekyan, and cellist Alla Kurdiumova, who performed works by Komitas, setting a warm and cultural atmosphere for the reunion.

Guests were then welcomed by H.E. Viktor Yengibaryan, ambassador of the RA in Germany. In his opening remarks, he welcomed the AUA alumni to what he described as their home in Germany, emphasizing the enduring importance of education as a foundation for personal growth and as a powerful tool for addressing today’s global challenges. Yengibaryan encouraged alumni to continue applying the knowledge and values they gained at AUA toward the development and future of Armenia.

Presenting on behalf of the Office of Alumni Relations, Yeritsyan introduced participants to the recent developments at AUA, highlighting new initiatives across the University as well as opportunities for alumni to remain actively engaged with their alma mater through events, volunteer initiatives, networking opportunities, and philanthropic initiatives.

Bringing together alumni from different graduating classes and disciplines, the reunion created a unique space for meaningful networking across generations. As participants shared their professional journeys, AUA memories, and aspirations, new connections emerged between alumni at different stages of their careers. The gathering fostered conversations that strengthened the growing AUA network in Germany and reinforced the value of belonging to a lifelong global community.

Sharing her experience as an alum in Germany, Yeritsyan said “This reunion goes beyond bringing AUA alumni together. It’s about strengthening the tie between AUA, its graduates, and the Armenian Embassy, which keeps us close to our homeland. Gatherings like this build community, and contribute to Armenia’s future. I hope it becomes a lasting tradition for AUA alumni across Europe,” she remarked.

The celebration concluded with a networking reception featuring refreshments generously provided by Henry Avdalian through his venture, Cafe de Enrico. The informal setting allowed alumni to continue conversations, reconnect with old friends, and build new professional and personal relationships.

The Berlin reunion stands as another successful milestone within AUA’s 35th anniversary celebrations, demonstrating the strength of the University’s alumni network and the lasting bonds that unite AUA graduates across the globe.

Founded in 1991, the American University of Armenia (AUA) is a private, independent university located in Yerevan, Armenia, affiliated with the University of California, and accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) in the United States.
