YEREVAN, Armenia — For Dr. Kenn M. Kakosian, investing in education is one of the most meaningful ways to create a lasting impact. He believes that education brings immense value to the development and progress of Armenia, and the greatest result is achieved by empowering students to reach their potential.
Dr. Kakosian has supported AUA for several years through the Kenn Kakosian Family Scholarship Fund, focusing on financial barriers to higher education for students from Armenia’s regions. Launched at the American University of Armenia (AUA), this program has now expanded to multiple universities across Armenia.
In April, Dr. Kakosian visited AUA campus to meet the students supported by the fund. A key focus of his scholarship initiative is ensuring that educational opportunities reach young people from communities across the country.
The Belief in the Power of Education: Partnership with AUA
At the heart of his commitment to giving back is a lifelong belief in the power of education. “In our family, there was always a special place and focus for education,” Dr. Kakosian shared. “And I thought, what would be a better investment in my homeland than investing in education?”
For him, AUA became a trusted partner in bringing his vision to life. “The Office of Development had a great contribution in my decision to start with AUA. I am glad that it started with AUA, as it was the best way to start it effectively.”
Dr. Kakosian also expressed sincere gratitude to AUA President Dr. Bruce Boghosian and Vice President of Development Gaiane Khachatryan for supporting his philanthropic journey and helping turn his ideas into action. “They made this journey of giving back smooth, with no obstacles,” he said. “Everything was organized with such an optimistic and positive attitude. I am glad to see that such dedicated people are working at AUA.”
Earlier this year, his generosity extended beyond the classroom. The Triangle Park–Karen Kakosian Gardens adjacent to the AUA campus now bears the name, a lasting tribute made possible by his commitment to the university and the community it serves. The park is open to AUA students, faculty and neighborhood residents alike, marking a significant milestone in the University’s commitment to Yerevan’s urban development. During the opening ceremony, held June 4, distinguished guests gathered to mark the occasion, reflecting the broad community investment Dr. Kakosian’s vision has inspired.
Meeting the Students Supported by the Scholarship Fund
This year, eight AUA students are scholarship recipients, and during his recent visit, Dr. Kakosian met with new recipients and the students he supported over several years.
“Every time my meetings with the students are filled with so much positive energy, optimism, and brightness,” he said. “The students are incredible, all of them,” he added. A few students are already in their final years of study, allowing him to witness not only their academic progress but also their personal growth.
For Dr. Kakosian, education is not only about individual success but about expanding possibilities and building a stronger Armenia.“Receiving such quality education will open doors for them,” he noted.
Looking ahead, Dr. Kakosian’s greatest hope is to see students use their education to contribute to Armenia’s future and flourishment. “I would be very happy to see that after receiving this quality education, our students contribute as much as they can to the development of our homeland,” he said.
